BIOGRAPHY
Wojtek Jakubiec is a Polish Canadian director, cinematographer and photographer. Born in Poland, Wojtek spent his early childhood in Algeria prior to immigrating in the late 1980’s to Canada.
In 2009, he graduates from the Commercial Photography program at Dawson College and receives the Patron Award for his documentary Stories from Behind the Bell. In the ensuing years he works as an advertising photographer and produces several personal projects such as Guerreros - a photo documentary about the boxing subculture in Mexico.
In 2022, he enrolls in the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University and pursues filmmaking. During the same year, he writes, directs, and films his first film titled The Company We Keep. The film is well received and wins Best Documentary, Best Director, and Best Cinematography at the 2023 Concordia Film Festival. The piece is also selected to be part of the 2023 Vancouver International Film Festival. In 2024, he completes his second short film, On the Waterfront, a documentary on the Montreal Seafarers Center and their mission during the Christmas season. The film wins Best Film Editing at the 2024 Concordia Film Festival, and is selected for the 16th Kuan Du Film Festival in Taiwan, and at the 2025 edition of the Independent Film Festival of Boston.
In 2025, he releases the The Art of Fencing, a short documentary produced by CBC leading us into the world of fencing at the Escrime Mont-Royal fencing club.
Wojtek is currently in post-production for his upcoming CBC documentary, The Mariner & the Museum, which will be released in fall 2025.
